Community Health Nursing Department Organizes Suturing Skills Training Program for Nursing Students

The Community Health Nursing Department at Cihan University-Erbil successfully organized a two-day Suturing Skills Training Program on June 17–18, 2026, to enhance the clinical competencies of nursing students in wound management and suturing techniques.

The program received nursing students from Erbil Polytechnic University and Shaqlawa Technical Institute, providing them with an opportunity to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a professional laboratory environment.

The training was conducted in the Fundamental Nursing Laboratory and the Maternity and Pediatric Nursing Laboratory at Cihan University-Erbil under the supervision of Dr. Zin Zivinkee, Head of the Community Health Nursing Department.

The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Omed Salam, Ms. Kawthar Shahab, and Ms. Baran Jumaa, who delivered comprehensive theoretical instruction and practical demonstrations throughout the program.

During the two-day training, participants received extensive instruction on wound classification, suturing materials and instruments, wound preparation procedures, various suturing techniques, and potential complications associated with wound closure. The program combined lectures, demonstrations, instructional videos, hands-on practice, pre- and post-training assessments, and interactive learning activities to ensure effective knowledge acquisition and skill development.

The practical component enabled students to apply their newly acquired knowledge under expert supervision, enhancing their confidence and competence in essential clinical procedures that are fundamental to nursing practice.

The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognition of outstanding student performance, the collection of participant feedback, and a commemorative group photograph. Participants expressed their appreciation for the high quality of the training and the valuable learning experience provided by Cihan University-Erbil.

This initiative reflects the Community Health Nursing Department’s ongoing commitment to strengthening clinical education, promoting professional development, and fostering collaboration with educational institutions across the Kurdistan Region.
