Community Health Nursing Students Conduct a Scientific Visit to Paky Hospital
On Monday, February 9, 2026, fourth-stage students from the Department of Community Health Nursing at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific and educational field visit to Paky Hospital in Newroz, Erbil. The visit aimed to enhance students’ practical competencies by exposing them to a professional clinical environment and strengthening their understanding of nursing practice in a real hospital setting.
The visit was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Usha Rani Kandula, with the support of Lab Assistant Mr. Omed Salam Hamakhan. It began with an introductory session delivered by Head Nurse Mr. Ayoub Hassan, a representative of Paky Hospital, during which the students were oriented to the hospital environment and professional workplace practices.
During the visit, students were introduced to various hospital departments, beginning with the Emergency Department, where they observed patient triage procedures, immediate care, and emergency nursing interventions. Emphasis was placed on the importance of rapid response, teamwork, patient safety, and strict adherence to hospital protocols during critical situations.
The students also visited the Maternal Health Nursing Department, where they gained insight into antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care services. Nursing staff explained routine maternal assessments, vital sign monitoring, patient education, and the essential role of nurses in promoting maternal and fetal well-being through compassionate, evidence-based care.
In the Child Health Nursing Department, students were introduced to pediatric nursing practices, including growth and development monitoring, immunization services, and child-centered care. Special attention was given to effective communication with children and their caregivers, as well as maintaining a safe and supportive environment for pediatric patients.
In addition, students visited other hospital units, where they observed general nursing responsibilities, documentation procedures, infection prevention measures, and interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare professionals. These observations helped students develop a clearer understanding of hospital policies, standard operating procedures, and the practical implementation of nursing care in daily practice.
The Department of Community Health Nursing at Cihan University–Erbil extends its sincere appreciation to Paky Hospital, Newroz, Erbil, for providing this valuable learning opportunity. Special thanks are extended to the hospital administration and nursing staff for their cooperation, guidance, and continuous support throughout the visit.
