Department of Anesthesia Techniques Conducts Academic and Practical Visit to Bio Plus Laboratory
On Thursday, 27 November 2025, the Department of Anesthesia Techniques at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an academic and practical scientific visit to Bio Plus Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Sarah Layth Abdul Jaleel, Specialist in Hematology. A group of third-year students participated in the visit.
The visit began with a tour of the Blood Collection Rooms, where students received explanations on professional sample-collection procedures and the principles of safe patient handling. They then proceeded to the main laboratories, where they were introduced to the Complete Blood Count (CBC) analyzer and observed the preparation and examination of blood films under the microscope, gaining a deeper understanding of blood cell morphology.
The tour also included a practical demonstration of the centrifuge, used to separate sample components, and the Smart Rate ESR Auto device for measuring erythrocyte sedimentation rate. A detailed presentation was given on Teco and Stago analyzers, which are used for coagulation tests such as PT, PTT, Lupus, and Fibrinogen, highlighting their essential role in evaluating the hemostatic system.
Students further explored electrolyte-testing instruments, including the Electrolytes Analyzer for measuring sodium, potassium, and chloride. They were then introduced to advanced analytical platforms such as Cobas 6000 and Cobas Integra for biochemical analysis, as well as Cobas E411 and Abbott systems for hormonal testing. Additionally, they observed the Celis system for urinalysis and learned about workflow procedures in the Virology Laboratory.
The participating third-year students, Yousif Muhannad Anwar, Saadi Ahmed Saadi, Humam Salem, and Mohammed Ahmed Harj, expressed strong interest in the technologies presented and demonstrated clear enthusiasm for developing their laboratory competencies in line with professional healthcare standards.
This visit reflects the Department of Anesthesia Techniques’ commitment to providing a comprehensive educational environment that equips students with real-world laboratory experience and enhances their readiness for clinical practice upon graduation.
