Department of Biomedical Sciences Organizes Seminar on Acne and Post-Acne Management
On Sunday, 23 November 2025, the Department of Biomedical Sciences organized a scientific seminar titled ‘Acne & Post-Acne Sequelae: Clinical Management and Aesthetic Approaches’. The session was presented by Dr. Rand Dureid Abdulla, owner of Dr. Rand Alkhateeb Beauty Clinic, and held at the VIP Hall. The event was attended by academic staff and students from various departments, reflecting strong interdisciplinary interest in dermatological and aesthetic sciences.
During her presentation, Dr. Rand provided an in-depth explanation of the pathophysiology of acne, clarifying that its development is influenced by four major factors: excessive sebum production, abnormal keratinization leading to follicular blockage, colonization of the follicle by Cutibacterium acnes, and the resulting inflammatory responses. She also outlined the clinical types of acne, highlighted the underlying causes, and discussed evidence-based therapeutic strategies, including both topical and systemic management commonly used in clinical practice.
Furthermore, Dr. Rand introduced participants to a range of modern aesthetic and procedural treatment modalities for managing acne and post-acne sequelae. These included chemical peels such as glycolic, lactic, and yellow peels, as well as carbon laser, Q-switch laser, and microneedling enhanced with PRP or exosomes.
The seminar ended with an engaging question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity for academic dialogue and emphasizing the importance of integrating clinical and aesthetic approaches for comprehensive acne care.
