On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a group of students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences participated in a panel discussion held at Majidi Hospital in Erbil to commemorate International Physiotherapy Day.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for Biomedical Sciences students to gain practical exposure to the organisation, presentation, and professional discussion of clinical topics. Rahma Dilshad Abdulhadi and Khawlah Hashim Azeez Faeq, fourth-stage students, along with Rawa Abdulrahman and Zhinar Sami, second-stage students, attended the panel and actively participated in the discussions.
The panel was presented by specialist physicians Dr. Zhalla Kak Ameen Mawlood, Dr. Shilan Fayroz Aref, and Dr. Alla Osama Altaweel. The speakers discussed a range of clinically relevant topics, including rheumatoid arthritis, its causes, signs and symptoms, and the role of physiotherapy in relieving symptoms and improving patients’ functional outcomes.
The participation of Biomedical Sciences students highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary learning and collaboration between biomedical education and clinical practice. Attending such professional events enables students to strengthen their understanding of clinical conditions, observe how healthcare professionals communicate and present scientific information, and develop greater awareness of the role of multidisciplinary healthcare teams in patient care.
