Department of English Language Students Explore English Language Dictionaries Through a Morphology-Based Educational Visit

Third-year students from the Department of English Language visited Haval Bookstore on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, under the supervision of their course lecturer, Assistant Lecturer Zeena Mahmood Ameen. They were warmly received by Mr. Shafie Mohammed Hasan and Ms. Rozhan Abdullah Razak, the bookstore staff.

During the educational visit, each student conducted a different activity focusing on dictionaries from a particular perspective. Zahra Hawre Nadr interviewed the bookstore staff about the dictionaries available at the bookstore. She asked about the latest editions, their descriptions, and the unique features that distinguish them from one another. She also explored previous editions, identifying their word counts and examining how words may differ or remain similar across different editions.

Next, Sarah Habib Ahmed focused on dictionary users and their attitudes towards dictionary use. She interviewed customers about their preferred dictionaries and the reasons for their choices. She also asked about how frequently they use dictionaries and whether they still use hard-copy and electronic dictionaries in the era of artificial intelligence, or whether they have turned to AI tools instead.

Meanwhile, Entihaa Muneam Saleh examined differences between British and American English spelling in dictionaries. She also compared general-purpose dictionaries with specialized dictionaries containing terminology and jargon used in different fields of study and professional specializations.

The visit concluded with the students expressing their appreciation to the bookstore staff for their cooperation and assistance. The students were pleased with this visit, which provided them with an opportunity to explore dictionaries from different perspectives.
