Department of Interior Design Engineering Students Conduct Scientific Field Visit to Erbil Citadel

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to Erbil Citadel.

The visit was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Aws Ahmed Abdulhamid. Upon arrival, the students were officially received by Mr. Ardalan Bayz Hamad, an engineering staff member at Erbil Citadel.

During the visit, Mr. Ardalan introduced the students to the Citadel’s master plan, explained the historical significance of its buildings, and emphasized the importance of preserving historical elements. He also provided practical insights into design, the use of traditional materials, and their compatibility with modern materials.

Furthermore, he addressed various interior design aspects, focusing on newly added design elements, spatial organization, circulation paths, and the relationship between interior spaces and residential requirements. These discussions helped bridge the students’ practical observations with their academic studies.

The visit provided the students with valuable field experience and practical knowledge to support their academic projects, particularly those related to the restoration and adaptive reuse of historical buildings.
