Department of Interior Design Engineering Students Visit Jalil Khayat Mosque
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, second-year students from the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to Jalil Khayat Mosque in Erbil. The visit was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Aws Ahmed Abdulhameed, and the students were officially welcomed by Mr. Salar Rashid Muhammad, Administrative Officer at Jalil Khayat Mosque.
During the visit, Mr. Salar Rashid Muhammad delivered a formal welcoming speech, introducing the historical background of the mosque, its architectural concept, and its administrative structure. He provided a detailed explanation of the mosque’s functional zoning, including the external gardens, ablution areas, central courtyard, events hall, and the main prayer hall. The students examined the architectural style of the mosque and its Islamic design vocabulary, focusing on structural and decorative elements such as the mihrab, minbar, structural columns, arches, minarets, central dome, and ornamental details. Technical aspects of spatial organization, symmetry, lighting strategies, and material selection were also clarified to support the students’ academic projects in Islamic interior design.
The visit ended with an interactive discussion session, during which students asked specialized questions regarding Islamic geometric patterns, dome construction, and the integration of decorative elements within sacred spaces. The activity provided documented field observations that will support their Islamic design studio projects.
