Department of Law Organizes a Scientific Seminar on the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO)

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the Department of Law at Cihan University–Erbil organized a specialized scientific seminar on the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO) in the VIP Hall. The seminar was attended by the Head of the Law Department, several faculty members, and a distinguished group of students.

The seminar was presented by Dr. Hamdi Sinjari, Vice President of SOMO, who reviewed a range of important themes highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in managing and marketing Iraqi oil. During the session, Dr. Sinjari addressed the nature of oil contracts adopted in Iraq, explaining their legal and administrative foundations. He also discussed the origins and structure of SOMO, including its primary duties and operational mechanisms.

Furthermore, Dr. Sinjari highlighted the international dimensions of Iraqi oil sales and the organization’s relationships with global oil companies and relevant institutions. He also examined the challenges facing the oil marketing process in light of international economic and political fluctuations.

At the end of the seminar, the attendees expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Hamdi Sinjari for the valuable insights provided.
