Department of Law Students Deliver Human Rights Awareness Seminar at a Local Primary School
On Monday, 24 November 2025, second-year Law students Mobeen Fakhir Karim and Omed Hirsh Namiq from Cihan University–Erbil delivered an awareness lecture to the students of Sheikh Saeed Peran Mixed Primary School in Erbil. The event was organized in coordination with the school principal, Ms. Mahabad Talat Obaid, who received them upon their arrival.
The students presented an educational lecture titled, Human Rights: The Foundation of Global Dignity and Justice. The session began with a clear overview of the history of human rights, tracing its development from early philosophical ideas to the Magna Carta and onward to the establishment of the United Nations.
They then highlighted the fundamental principles of human rights, emphasizing inherent dignity, equality, and freedom as universal and non-negotiable rights for every individual.
The lecture also addressed contemporary challenges to human rights, noting issues such as poverty, racial discrimination, and violations of women’s and children’s rights in conflict zones. The presenters stressed the need for global awareness and collective action to confront these violations.
At the end of the seminar, the students emphasized the vital role of citizens in promoting and protecting human rights. They encouraged the school students to become ambassadors of positive change within their communities, highlighting that individual responsibility through monitoring, raising awareness, and engaging in civic activities is essential for preserving justice and equality.
