Department of Media Organizes Seminar on Interviewing Techniques

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, as part of ongoing scientific activities to enhance students’ professional development, the Department of Media at Cihan University–Erbil, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Kalari, organized a seminar on media interviewing for journalist Hiwa Jamal.

Held at the Cihan Academy Hall for Training and Development, the seminar was also organized for second-year students of the Department of Media as part of their ‘Interviewing Principles and Practices’ course. During the seminar, Hiwa Jamal, a journalist and presenter at Rudaw Channel, drew on his 25 years of professional experience to highlight the plans and steps for conducting a successful media interview. He emphasized the importance of a media professional’s competence in preparation and interview management, noting that the interview is one of the most challenging and influential media genres. Meanwhile, the attending students asked questions to further broaden their knowledge.

Hiwa Jamal then presented several copies of his translated book, Talk Show Programming in Radio and Television, to Cihan University and the Department of Media.

Finally, Dr. Mohammed, on behalf of the university administration and the Department of Media at Cihan University–Erbil, thanked Hiwa Jamal for presenting the seminar and expressed hope that this academic collaboration between the university and media institutions would continue to benefit the students.
