English Department Students Visited Zaituna Library for Cultural Exchange and Learning
On Monday, February 10, 2025, third-year students from the Department of English at Cihan University-Erbil visited Zaituna Library to exchange cultural information and learn about the library’s management practices. The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate how the library can enhance students’ access to books and information. Assistant Lecturer Huda Shwan Omar led the activity, and it was warmly welcomed by Mr. Hogr Majid Abdulla, the library supervisor, who guided the group and introduced all the sections of the library.
During the meeting, Mr. Hogr introduced the different sections of the library, each dedicated to a specific category of books and resources. The Kurdish section offers a rich collection of literature, history, and cultural works in the Kurdish language, providing insights into the region’s traditions and heritage. The Arabic section, on the other hand, features an extensive range of books, including classical and modern literature, religious texts, and academic works, catering to Arabic-speaking readers. The foreign books section houses work in various languages, representing a diverse selection of global literature, from fiction to non-fiction, for readers interested in exploring different cultures and perspectives. The Korean section offers books related to Korean culture, language, and history, reflecting the growing interest in East Asian literature. Additionally, the library has a newspaper and magazine archive section, preserving a collection of local and international periodicals, offering a valuable resource for research, history, and staying informed on past events. Finally, the reading section is a designated quiet space where visitors can immerse themselves in their reading or study materials. Over the years, the library has evolved, continuously expanding its collection to meet the needs of its community, fostering a culture of learning and discovery.
From this, the library offers diverse resources that benefit English language students by providing access to foreign books, newspapers, and magazines. These materials help students improve their language skills, expand their vocabulary, and gain cultural insights. The quiet reading space also offers an ideal environment for focused study and learning.
