Graduation Ceremony of Cihan University-Erbil 2017-2018

  On Monday April 15^th 2019, observed by Dr. Yousif Goran, the Minister of Higher Education and Sceintific Studies of Kurdistan Government, Cihan University has held the graduation ceremony for the class of 2017-2018. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, the General Directorate of the Ministry’s Council, University Presidents, Deans, university teachers, and distinguished personalities.

 

The ceremony initiated with a minute of silence for the Martyrs of Kurdistan and the recitation of a few verses of the holy Qura’an by Dr. Abdulstar Karim Saeed. Then, the following speeches were made respectively;

First and foremost, in the name of myself, the University board members, all the teachers, employees, and students of Cihan University, I would like to offer the warmest welcome to all the guests, government and political party officials, and distinguished personalities for attending the 8^th Graduation Ceremony of Cihan University-Erbil.

 

Dears; today, Cihan University-Erbil is honored to offer the nation 1291 graduates from 15 scientific departments for the academic year 2017-2018.

 

Dear Graduates; today, at this scientific carnival and after 4 years of tireless efforts from you, I am pleased and honored to congratulate you on your graduation and I encourage you to try your best to serve our beloved Kurdistan.

 

Congratulations on your day and degrees… I commend your teachers who did not hesitate to offer their best efforts to teach you all the latest information and knowledge needed for you to be ready for this day and onward

 

Distinguished Guests; regarding academic relations, Cihan University-Erbil is a member of the Association of Arab Universities and has a number of signed agreements with regional and international universities for raising the quality of studying at the university. Cihan University-Erbil is committed to signing more agreements and letters of understanding in the future. The university tries its best to bringing the best foreign teachers. Internally, we have many centers and consultancy offices which offer continuous courses to students and teachers of our university and any public or private institutions who want to heighten the level of proficiency of their employees; the centers include Center of Gender Studies, Research Center, Engineering Consultancy Office, Cultural Center, Career Center, Language Center, ICDL Center for Awarding International Certificates.

 

Dears; regarding raising the quality of studying at our university, we are following some programs which are; firstly, Zeva Accreditation, and getting this program for some of our departments is at its final steps. Secondly, we have applied ISO for all of the administration works at the university. Finally, regarding Bologna Process, our university has started the steps and the full Process would be implemented for the academic year 2019-2020.

 

Respected Attendees; It is our pleasure to give heartfelt thanks and appreciation to his Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Affairs and all the government institutions; also, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Cihan Group as the founder of the University and to its Head of Board Trustees Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajgir for their continuous and tireless support.

It is a pleasure to be with you on this special occasion to honor the 2017-2018 graduates of Cihan University, thank you for joining us to celebrate this memorable day. It is indeed my pleasure to acknowledge the graduates of Cihan University. We in the board of trustees of the university are very proud of their achievements. Not only the graduates are very well grounded in their scientific specializations they studied, they have excellent communication and teamwork skills as well as passion for life-long learning. It is my expectation that they will become leaders in their chosen profession.

Parents and grandparents, thank you for allowing us to work with your children for a few years. It is clear that your sons and daughters have had the kind of family support that leads to hard working, well-disciplined, clever, interesting young generations.

These students are completing a program that combines the challenges of an engineering major with interdisciplinary focus areas including law studies, business, and public health. I am certain that all will find success following today’s graduation, and I wish them the greatest of success in their future. I congratulate each of you for your dedication and hard work, and we welcome the new Future Makers

 

The speech of his Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr.Yousif Goran:

 

His Excellency’s first remarks were that; today is your final academic days at the university, and it is your first step into the professional life in which our region is in dire need of well-equipped individuals with knowledge in various fields of the job market. So I would like to thank Cihan University for making it possible for another group of students to graduate. I hope that you will be leaders in your fields of work just like you finished your university years successfully. His Excellency added: each one of you has needed knowledge about your field which is related to the daily lives of people and would be a great factor in the prosperity of our nation.

Since the inception of the 8^th government cabinet, we have set an agenda for the advancement of higher education system in Kurdistan Region by overhauling the programs of study in accordance to the latest changes and progress of science and knowledge. Also, our ministry has worked on changing the Pedagogy System, methods of teaching, bettering the studying systems and welcoming foreign universities to have ties with our universities and advocating teachers to try harder and learn foreign languages.

His Excellency Dr. Yusuf Goran reiterated the achievements of the ministry and said: in 2015 we have announced a new strategy which was a project named Bologna Process and we have encouraged the universities to apply it. After announcing this project we gladly declare that most of the universities have treaded important steps into fully applying it in a way that lots of our universities are following the Bologna for their whole or some departments. Applying these projects successfully showed that we have knowledgeable teachers and experts who can get new information and conveying it.

Furthermore, His Excellency said that the ministry has announced the national ranking for the universities which effectively created a scientific competitiveness between those universities and this is beneficial for the advancement of their levels. Hereby I want to commend Cihan University-Erbil for getting a top spot in the ranking; which would line them in the First groups of the universities.

His Excellency said that the ministry held a workshop for revising the guidelines of scientist title promotion which is needed for bettering the level of our teachers and in the following weeks the new guidelines would be issued. We hope that the new guidelines would work as a gate for our researchers to publish their papers in the best journals in the world which have Impact Factor, Citation, and H.Index.

On His Excellency’s final remarks, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Studies reiterated the point that the private universities work as a completion of the process of higher education, for this his Excellency repeated his congratulations to Cihan University-Erbil for getting a top placement in the National Ranking of the universities and congratulated the graduates.

 

The graduates have said the legal oath and the top students were rewarded by the representative of board of trustees of Cihan Universities and the President of Cihan University-Erbil
