Interior Design Engineering Department Students Conducted a Scientific Visit to Erbil Citadel
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Head of the Interior Design Engineering Department at Cihan University – Erbil organized a scientific field visit for fourth-year students, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Aws Ahmed, to the historical and archaeological Erbil Citadel.
During this visit, the students were received by Hawraz Muzaffar, the supervisor of historical building restoration at the Citadel. In his welcoming remarks, Muzaffar emphasized the importance of such visits for students to foster their interest in the nation’s past, culture, and archaeological sites. He then accompanied the students on a tour to inspect several historical buildings within Erbil Citadel, highlighting the significance of preserving this historical archaeological site. Subsequently, he discussed the plans for the revival and renovation of Erbil Citadel, detailing the restoration steps and methods used for renovating the archaeological buildings. He also noted their continuous efforts to ensure that the Citadel not only remains a museum but also becomes a vibrant cultural and artistic center and a source of inspiration for designers.
In another part of the visit, the interior design engineering students were introduced to the building materials used in the past, as well as the decorative styles of historical houses and methods of preserving them using modern techniques that do not compromise their historical value, as explained by the Citadel’s restoration supervisor.
Finally, the students gained a deeper understanding of the architectural value, design aspects of old houses and buildings, and their restoration methods.
