International Relations and Diplomacy Gained Diplomatic Insights from Former Ambassador
On Thursday, February 20, 2025, fourth-year students from the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific visit with the former Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Switzerland.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Dr. Beirut Ahmed, who shared his experiences in political and diplomatic work. He explained the key tasks and functions of Iraqi embassies abroad, as well as the methods of diplomatic representation. Dr. Beirut emphasized that a diplomat’s success lies in their ability to stay informed about significant global events and remain updated on the latest literature in political affairs, particularly regarding leaders and strategic thinkers in various countries.
During the visit, the students posed questions to the ambassador about the essential skills required to develop their diplomatic abilities. Dr. Beirut advised that students of international relations and diplomacy should keep pace with technological advancements, incorporate effective communication skills, utilize modern negotiation techniques, and develop the ability to analyze and connect political events. Additionally, he stressed the importance of making sound decisions during crises that require quick resolutions.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Beirut Ahmed Ibrahim for hosting them and delivering a valuable lecture on diplomatic work.
