International Workshop by the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Cihan University-Erbil
On the International Food Day, an international workshop, food festival and poster exhibition were held by the teaching staff of Nutrition and Dietetics Department in Cihan University-Erbil on October 13-14, 2021.
Dr. Salih Zebari, Dr.Bashdar Abuzeed, Dr.Behnaz Shahrokhesahneh and Mr.Yaseen Galal presented a seminar in the workshop. Besides, some international lecturers presented their seminar through Zoom application. They were Prof. Richard Handy from the University of Playmoth, UK; Dr. Mariam Ismail from Western University, Canada; Dr. Qais Najem from Ibb University, Yemen; Dr. Woroud Alsanei from Kings Abdullah University, KSA
The discussed topics highlighted on the importance of food safety and the newest nanotechnologies that are used to develop safe and cost-effective food products. In addition, raising the awareness of the society of how to manage food products and wastes, as well as the ISO regulation and HAACP system were discussed. The presenters also talked about the functional and active compounds of food and how to prevent and treat many diseases practically.
The students of Nutrition and Dietetics Department were also active and participated in the festival by preparing food like juices, bread, bakeries and some other healthy food that they themselves had made and developed the recipes.
