Iraqi Journalists Syndicate Organizes Seminar on Media Disinformation
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Training and Development Committee of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate organized a specialized academic seminar at its headquarters in Baghdad entiled ‘Media Disinformation: A Tool to Distort the Truth,’ the seminar was presented by Dr. Asifa Musa Kadhim and attracted a distinguished audience of academics, journalists, and media researchers.
The seminar was attended by the Vice President of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Mr. Muayd Al-Lami, who emphasized the importance of raising public awareness and combating data manipulation techniques that influence public opinion. In his remarks, he highlighted the vital role of media and academic institutions in promoting professionalism and objectivity, as well as limiting the spread of fake news.
The event also featured the participation of Assistant Lecturer Omar Hassan Fahmi, representing the Department of Media at the College of Arts, Cihan University–Erbil, alongside a distinguished group of researchers, journalists, and media professionals. Participants enriched the seminar through in-depth academic discussions on the challenges facing contemporary media and the importance of developing fact-checking skills.
During the seminar, Dr. Asifa Musa Kadhim addressed several key topics, including the concept of media disinformation and its mechanisms in the digital age, the methods used to manipulate facts and shape public perceptions, and the impact of disinformation on public opinion and decision-making processes.
The seminar concluded with participants emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation and establish partnerships between academic institutions and journalistic syndicates. Such collaboration aims to enhance the competencies of media professionals and promote responsible, ethical journalism that upholds the truth and serves society.
