Kurdish History and National Identity Seminar Delivered by a Law Student
On January 25, 2026, Naznaz Kahin Abdulrahim, a second-year law student at Cihan University – Erbil, organized and delivered an awareness seminar titled ‘Stations of Kurdish Struggle and Tragedies’ at Bardakaraman High School for Girls.
The event started with a warm received from the school principal, Ms. Parween Mohammed Rasul. Naznaz engage the students in an interactive and engaging way. She began her awareness seminar by explaining the history of the Kurdish people and the difficulties they faced in the modern era. She started with the most important event: the proclamation of the Republic of Mahabad. She explained how this event affected the Kurdish people emotionally and politically and how it influenced their ongoing struggle for freedom.
Naznaz then talked about the tragic genocide against the Barzanis, describing it as a painful event that left a deep mark on Kurdish history. She also discussed the situation of the Faili Kurds, highlighting that they are an important part of Kurdish identity.
At the end of the seminar, she explained the referendum held in the Kurdistan Region in simple legal and historical terms, describing it as a major step toward democracy and freedom.
Ms. Parween Mohammed Rasul praised Naznaz for her excellent performance and thanked her for providing accurate and valuable information. She added that the seminar helped students understand Kurdish history better and feel proud of their national identity.
