Law Department Student at Cihan University-Erbil Commemorated International Human Rights Day
On Monday, December 9, 2024, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, Ahmed Mustafa, a first-stage Law Department student, presented his topic to students from Khanzad Primary School for Boys. His topic was related to the basic principles of human rights, the classifications of rights and liberties, and their importance. This activity was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali.
During the presentation, many terms related to human rights were introduced, including the meaning of rights and freedoms and the importance of protecting them for civil society. Students were also introduced to the types and classifications of rights and freedoms in general and the importance and characteristics of each type. The role of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in enshrining basic rights and freedoms in local legislation was also discussed.
This activity was introduced within a series of activities carried out by the first-stage College of Law students who are studying the Human Rights course. Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali stressed the importance of such an activity for students to enable them to acquire the necessary skills to become good human rights defenders and advocates. Additionally, Ahmed Mustafa emphasized the significance of that activity for students to strengthen their skills and increase their interaction with the community to raise awareness about human rights among society in general and primary school students in particular.
