Law Department Student Delivers Awareness Seminar at Hamreen High School
Murad Younis Jalil, a second-year student from the Department of Law at Cihan University Erbil, delivered a detailed awareness seminar to 12th-grade students at Hamreen High School in the Ronaki neighborhood of Erbil. The event, held on November 4, 2025, was coordinated by Ms. Muna Saleem Abbas, a teacher at Hamreen High School, who warmly received the student.
During the seminar, the student addressed various issues related to the electoral process and its importance in building a democratic state and protecting the environment. He emphasized that the right to vote is guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution, noting that elections are the means to ensure a free and fair expression of voters’ will. He later discussed the conditions for voters, such as being fully qualified and having reached the legal voting age, as well as the conditions for candidates, which typically include good conduct, a strong reputation, and no prior convictions for felonies that breach honor. He also highlighted the obligations of candidates during electoral campaigns, stressing the importance of avoiding all forms of fanaticism and ensuring transparency in campaign financing.
Additionally, the seminar focused on the importance of environmental protection during electoral campaigns, emphasizing the need to use eco-friendly advertising methods and to ensure that banners and posters are not left in the streets or public spaces after the campaign ends. This approach helps keep the city clean and beautiful, reflecting a civilized awareness that aligns with electoral responsibility.
The student concluded the seminar by highlighting the obligations of elected representatives after winning, including serving the public interest, fulfilling electoral promises, upholding societal values and laws, and working to hold the government accountable while directing it to serve the citizens.
