Law Department Students Conduct an Awareness Seminar on the Status of Kurds in Syria at Nawdaran Private Preparatory School
On Monday, February 2, 2026, third-year students from the Department of Law at Cihan University–Erbil organized a distinguished awareness activity targeting fifth-stage students at Nawdaran Private Preparatory School. The event was held under the direct coordination and supervision of the school’s principal, Mr. Peshwaz Shafiq Khoshnaw, who received the initiative and emphasized the vital importance of bridging the gap between educational curricula and real-world issues affecting the region.
The activity centered on a comprehensive specialized lecture titled “The Current Status of Kurds in Syria and the Position of International Law.” The student presenters began by highlighting the historical roots of the Kurdish issue in Syria, providing a clear overview of the region’s history and its development over time. Furthermore, the lecture included an in-depth analysis of the political and legal agreements concluded between the Kurds and the Syrian government, exploring how these agreements influence the broader political landscape and shape the relationship between the two parties amid rapid regional changes.
The seminar also addressed international law in relation to recent events in Syria, as the students reviewed the legal principles governing armed conflicts and the rights of ethnic groups. They discussed in detail the solutions and measures that should be taken in accordance with international conventions to ensure the protection of civilians. The event witnessed remarkable engagement from the preparatory school students, who enriched the discussion with insightful questions regarding the mechanisms for implementing international justice.
