Law Department Students Visit Kurdistan Region Parliament
The Law Department organized an academic field trip for its fifth-year students to the Kurdistan Region Parliament, Iraq, on Monday, October 27, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali.
The students were warmly received by Mr. Hiwa Hamid, Legal Advisor and Deputy Head of the Parliament Presidential Office (Diwan). He welcomed the students and commended the college’s initiative in organizing such activities, noting that they help prepare a well-informed and skilled generation of future legal professionals.
During the meeting, Mr. Hamid presented a detailed explanation of the Parliament’s organizational structure and its legislative and oversight authorities. He also outlined the process of drafting laws—from the initial proposal within committees, through discussions in general sessions, to final approval and publication in the Official Gazette. The significant role of the Legal Department in reviewing legislative drafts and ensuring their alignment with the Constitution and effective regulations was also emphasized.
In another part of the visit, the students were introduced to the media operations of the Parliament. The mechanisms for covering sessions and disseminating news through official media platforms were explained, along with the importance of public communication in supporting the democratic process and raising legal awareness among citizens.
At the end of the visit, Instructor Saman Hassan Ali delivered a speech of appreciation on behalf of the college and the students, expressing sincere gratitude to the Parliament’s administration and Mr. Hiwa Hamid for their warm welcome and generous hospitality.
