Law Students Participate in Public Session at Erbil First Criminal Court
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a group of fifth-Stage law students from Cihan University-Erbil participated in a public session at the Erbil First Criminal Court.
This student activity was supervised by Dr. Ali Salim Nuri. Upon their arrival, they were received by Judge Nader Abdulaziz Harky, President of the Erbil First Criminal Court. Judge Nader Abdulaziz Harky then presented a seminar to the students, meticulously detailing the role of forensic medicine in crimes of murder, assault, and battery. He emphasized that the forensic report significantly influences court decisions and the manner in which judgments are made according to the principles of criminal justice law. Subsequently, the President of the Erbil First Criminal Court provided the students with an overview of the court’s nature of work, its jurisdictions, and the importance of the judiciary’s role in achieving justice and upholding the rule of law. He also touched upon the practical realities of judicial work and the legal procedures followed in criminal courts.
In another segment of their visit, the President of the Erbil First Criminal Court granted the students the opportunity to attend a live session within the courtroom. This trial pertained to a case of assault and battery, in which Dr. Ali Salim Nuri, the course instructor, participated as a lawyer after reviewing and receiving the defendant’s statements, evidence, and the forensic medical report. Inside the courtroom, the students familiarized themselves with the litigation process and the roles of the judge, public prosecutor, and defense panel, in addition to the mechanism of presenting evidence, hearing testimonies from defendants and witnesses, and issuing judgments.
