Media Department Organizes Seminar on Documentary Filmmaking
On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific seminar titled ‘The Arts of Documentary Production’ under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Ammar Najmaddin. The event was held at the Cihan Academy for Training and Development.
The seminar was presented by journalist and documentary filmmaker Mr. Mohammad Al-Tamimi. During the session, he shed light on the field of documentary filmmaking and explored methods for discovering creative ideas within everyday events and transforming them into impactful visual stories.
Mr Mohammad. Al-Tamimi discussed the stages of documentary production in detail, including preparation and research, field filming techniques, and the art of montage, which he described as the fundamental pillars of successful media production. He also emphasized the importance of visual storytelling, explaining how facts can be presented in an artistic and engaging manner without compromising credibility and truth.
In another part of the seminar, Mr. Mohammad Mohammad Al-Tamimi noted that documentary films are not merely a narration of events but a powerful tool for change and historical documentation. He explained that mastering this field provides media students with valuable opportunities to excel in the labor market as professional and creative media practitioners.
The seminar concluded with an open academic discussion, during which students raised questions and shared observations, particularly regarding the technical and field challenges facing documentary journalism in the region.
At the end of the activity, the Head of the Media Department presented a certificate of appreciation to Mr. Mohammad Al-Tamimi in recognition of his valuable contribution. In turn, Mr. Al-Tamimi expressed his appreciation for the students’ active participation and praised the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil for organizing this scientific initiative.
