Media Department Students Visit Ashti Library
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, a group of students from the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ahmad Jamal Hama Karim, conducted a scientific visit to Ashti Library in Erbil.
The supervising lecturer and students, comprising first-, second-, and third-stage students, were received by Mr. Karimkhan Sherko, Director of Ashti Library, who expressed his pleasure at the visit. He highlighted the latest developments in printing and publishing, as well as the current state of reading among university students.
During a discussion with Mr. Karimkhan Sherko, the supervising lecturer and students addressed the role of books in enhancing cultural awareness among university students. They also discussed the importance of reading for media professionals, particularly in improving eloquence and enriching vocabulary and knowledge. The supervising lecturer emphasized that a successful media professional must be a continuous reader, as reading contributes to the development of writing skills, the expansion of knowledge, the enhancement of analytical abilities, a deeper understanding of cultures and societies, and the cultivation of critical thinking.
Mr. Karimkhan Sherko then outlined the activities of Ashti Library, including participation in international book fairs, hosting meetings with writers, and collaborating with universities and schools to promote a culture of reading among students.
Following the discussion, the students toured the library and visited the Kurdish books section, which contains a notable collection of works by Kurdish writers, ranging from poetry, short stories, and novels to scientific and historical research. They also visited the Arabic and English books sections, which include international and translated works.
At the end of the visit, the supervising lecturer expressed his appreciation to Mr. Karimkhan Sherko for the warm reception provided by Ashti Library, expressing hope that the relationship between the Media Department at Cihan University–Erbil and Ashti Library would continue and lead to joint cultural activities in the future.
