Medical Biochemical Analysis Students Conduct a Scientific Visit to Sardkar Beverage Manufacturing Company
On Monday, January 26, fourth-year students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to the Coca-Cola Company under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mr. Abdullah Jawdat and Lab Assistant Ms. Manar Firas.
The students were warmly received by Mr. Omed Mahmood, Head of Public Affairs. The visit began with safety preparations, during which Mr. Omed ensured that all students wore protective safety vests before entering the facility. The group was then guided to a conference room, where refreshments were provided, followed by a comprehensive presentation outlining Coca-Cola’s global presence, production plants, and international branches.
Subsequently, the Head of Quality Control introduced the students to the nutritional components of Coca-Cola products, explaining sugar content, additives, and labeling standards. This was followed by a session led by Ms. Naz, the Safety Engineer, who explained the factory’s safety regulations, emergency procedures, and accident prevention measures.
After a question-and-answer session, the students toured the production lines, where factory staff demonstrated the automated systems used for cans, small bottles, and large bottles, covering the mixing, filling, packaging, and palletizing stages. The production process was shown to be fully automated and continuously monitored by high-sensitivity sensors, with operations halted immediately if quality standards were not met.
The visit concluded in the Quality Control Laboratory, where students learned about physicochemical tests such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), sugar concentration, and ingredient analysis, as well as microbiological testing for coliforms, Pseudomonas, yeasts, and fungi. Finally, students were given the opportunity to ask questions and were informed about summer internship opportunities at the company.
