Medical Biochemical Analysis Students Conduct Health Awareness Seminar at Dabani Têkelao Primary School
On Thursday, 29th January 2026, a group of four students from the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an educational field visit to Dabani Têkelao Primary School.The visit was carried out under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Assistant Lecturer Hawri Fatih.
Upon arrival. the students were warmly received by Mr. Amanj Mustafa Salih, Assistant of the school administration, who expressed appreciation for the initiative and praised the students’ role in promoting health awareness within the school.
The student team that participated were Twana Salim, Twana Sirkawt, Helin Saadi, and Bahisht Tariq delivered a structured and age-appropriate health awareness seminar for fifth-grade primary students, with a strong emphasis on the harmful effects of cigarette smoking and carbonated gaseous drinks.
During the seminar, the students explained the health risks associated with smoking, focusing on its negative impact on the respiratory system, heart, and overall physical development. Special attention was given to the dangers of passive smoking, highlighting how exposure to cigarette smoke can seriously affect children’s lungs, immunity, and long-term health.
In addition, the seminar addressed the negative effects of carbonated drinks, including high sugar content, increased risk of tooth decay, obesity, weakened bones due to reduced calcium absorption, and decreased concentration and energy levels. These effects were explained using simple language and relatable examples suitable for young students.
The session was delivered in an interactive manner, encouraging students to ask questions and participate in discussions. The presenters also suggested healthy alternatives, such as drinking water and natural juices, and adopting healthier daily habits. At the end of the activity, small educational gifts were distributed to the students.
