Medical Microbiology Department: Health Awareness Seminar at Kurdistan High School
On Thursday, February 19, 2026, the Medical Microbiology Department conducted a health awareness seminar at Kurdistan High School. The session was delivered by Shokhan Omar Rasool, a fourth-year Medical Microbiology Department student at Cihan University–Erbil.
The seminar was officially hosted by Ms. Sara Abdulkareem Abduljabbar, Principal of the school, and Mr. Hamza Bahaa Hawrami, a teacher. Shokhan Omar presented a structured scientific session on blood groups, focusing on the ABO Blood Group System and the Rhesus (Rh) Factor. She explained the classification of blood groups (A, B, AB, O) based on the presence of specific antigens on red blood cells and the corresponding antibodies in plasma. The seminar clarified Rh-positive and Rh-negative typing and its clinical importance in safe blood transfusions and childbirth involving Rh-incompatible mothers. She also described compatibility principles, including the concepts of universal donor and universal recipient, supported by standard laboratory blood grouping techniques. School pupils actively participated by asking questions related to transfusion safety and emergency blood typing procedures.
The seminar ended with an interactive question-and-answer session between Shokhan Omar and the school pupils, reinforcing their scientific understanding of blood group identification in clinical practice. In her remarks, Principal Sara Abdulkareem acknowledged the seminar’s scientific value and expressed appreciation for the Medical Microbiology Department’s contribution to delivering accurate health education to the pupils.
