Medical Microbiology Department Students Investigate Microbial Characteristics Using Advanced Biochemical Techniques

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, second-stage students from the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific visit to Floria Medical Laboratory in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Khawaja Shakeel Ahmed.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Niyaz Sardar Assad, owner and Director of Floria Laboratory, who provided an overview of the laboratory’s advanced diagnostic facilities and biosafety systems. During the visit, they were guided through several specialized sections, including bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, and clinical chemistry units. Dr. Niyaz explained the use of automated culture systems and the identification of pathogenic microorganisms through advanced biochemical and molecular techniques. The students actively participated in discussions on routine microbiological procedures, sample handling, and quality assurance practices in diagnostic laboratories.

At the conclusion of the visit, Assistant Prof. Dr. Khawaja expressed his appreciation to Dr. Niyaz for his generous support and warm hospitality.
