Medical Microbiology Department Students Were Acquainted with the Sequential Processes of Oil Production
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, third-year Medical Microbiology Department students from Cihan University – Erbil visited the Nwebunawa Natural Oil Factory in Erbil, Bnaslawa district as part of their practical studies in the Medical Mycology course. The visit, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hero Ismael Mohammed, aimed to familiarize the students with the sequential processes involved in oil production and the medical significance of various types of oils, particularly their antimicrobial properties.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Chia Ali Karim, the factory’s supervisor and manager, who provided a detailed explanation of the factory’s operations. He guided the students through each stage of oil production, from the preparation of raw materials to the extraction and refinement processes. They observed various techniques employed to extract oils from different seeds and plants, gaining a comprehensive understanding of both cold-press and heat-press methods, along with their respective advantages and limitations.
As part of the visit, Mr. Chia generously shared samples of the extracted oils, which will be utilized in laboratory experiments at Cihan University – Erbil to study their effects on microorganisms, particularly fungi.
Assistant Lecturer Hero expressed her sincere gratitude to Mr. Chia and the Nwebunawa Natural Oil Factory for their hospitality and for providing an invaluable educational experience that enhanced the students’ understanding of oil production processes and their practical applications.
