Medical Microbiology Students Conduct Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign in Erbil Bazaar
On Sunday, 7 December 2025, the 2nd-year students of the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a public health awareness activity at Erbil Bazaar, under the supervision of Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ameena S. M. Juma, and Assistant Professor Dr. Khawaja Shakeel Ahmed.
During the campaign, students distributed informative pamphlets highlighting key risk factors, including cigarette smoking, second-hand smoke exposure, air pollution, and occupational hazards. The pamphlets also provided clear guidance on early symptoms, the benefits of screening, and lifestyle-based prevention strategies. Students engaged directly with shopkeepers, families, and visitors across various sections of the bazaar, ensuring wide coverage and meaningful interaction with diverse community groups.
The team emphasized the importance of early detection and encouraged individuals to seek medical consultation if they experienced persistent cough, chest pain, or shortness of breath. Many residents asked questions, interacted with the students, and expressed appreciation for receiving accessible, science-based information relevant to everyday life.
