Medical Microbiology Students Explore Automated Diagnostic Techniques at Floria Medical Laboratory
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, fourth-year students from the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific visit to Floria Medical Laboratory in Erbil, Kurdistan Region. The visit was supervised by Dr. Khawaja Shakeel Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology.
The students were warmly received by Dr. Niyaz Sardar Assad, Owner and Director of Floria Medical Laboratory, who provided an introductory briefing on the laboratory’s modern diagnostic infrastructure and operational standards.
During the visit, the students toured key sections of the laboratory, including microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics units. They observed and discussed advanced techniques for pathogen identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and molecular confirmation of infectious agents. Dr. Niyaz explained in detail the biosafety measures, sample processing protocols, and the use of automated instruments in routine clinical diagnostics. The interactive session allowed students to connect their academic knowledge with real-world clinical practices.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Khawaja Shakeel Ahmed expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Niyaz Sardar Assad for his warm reception and valuable contribution to the students’ learning experience. The students reported that the visit greatly enhanced their understanding of applied medical microbiology and professional diagnostic procedures.
