Medical Microbiology Students Visit Hawler Private Hospital
Second-year students from the Department of Medical Microbiology at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to Hawler Private Hospital on 4th of February 2026. The visit was organized as part of the academic training program under the supervision of A.L. Mustafa Thanoon Younis, Staff member in the Department of Medical Microbiology, to enhance students’ practical exposure to a clinical diagnostic environment.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Mr. Kawa Mohammed Karem, the Hospital In-Charge, who provided a comprehensive orientation about Hawler Private Hospital and its major clinical and diagnostic units. During the visit, Mr. Kawa Mohammed delivered detailed explanations regarding the organizational structure of the hospital, the workflow of different departments, and the standards followed in patient care and laboratory services.
Special emphasis was placed on diagnostic laboratories, where students were introduced to various modern instruments used for the examination and diagnosis of clinical specimens. The session included explanations of the principles, applications, and significance of these instruments in Medical Microbiology and routine hospital diagnostics. Students were also briefed on specimen handling, safety measures, and quality control practices adopted in the hospital laboratories.
The visit concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which students actively asked questions and clarified doubts related to diagnostic procedures and hospital laboratory operations. Overall, the field visit proved to be a valuable academic experience, strengthening students’ understanding of the practical aspects of Medical Microbiology and reinforcing the connection between classroom learning and real-world clinical practice.
