Pharmacy Students Conduct Health Awareness Visit to Sava Private School
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, pharmacy students from Cihan University–Erbil organized an awareness visit to Sava Private School for twelfth-grade students.
The participating delegation included fourth-stage students Yusuf Ali, Abdullah Younis, and Yusuf Sharhabeel, along with third-stage student Nasreen Khalid. The visit was supervised by lab assistant Aya Qaysar. The team was warmly received by the school’s events director, Hana Salam, as well as several teachers who attended the activity.
Yusuf Ali, Abdullah Younis, and Yusuf Sharhabeel delivered the presentation segment. They introduced the field of pharmacy, outlining its main branches, including clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and the pharmaceutical industry. The presenters also explained the academic pathway required to become a pharmacist and highlighted key professional responsibilities such as patient counseling, preventing drug interactions, ensuring safe dispensing practices, and promoting public health awareness.
During the medication safety session, Yusuf Ali explained the proper use of antibiotics and the risks of stopping treatment prematurely or taking antibiotics without a prescription. Abdullah Younis addressed the global challenge of antibiotic resistance and provided relevant examples of its consequences. Yusuf Sharhabeel emphasized the importance of reading medication labels, checking expiration dates, storing medicines properly, and consulting healthcare professionals before use.
The practical session was led by Nasreen Khalid, who conducted demonstrations of basic medical tests, including blood grouping and blood glucose measurement. She clearly explained each step, demonstrated the hygienic use of diagnostic tools, and ensured strict adherence to safety and infection control measures. She also clarified how blood sugar levels are measured and interpreted and explained the importance of knowing one’s blood group. Her session added a valuable practical dimension to the visit and increased student engagement.
The visit concluded with an interactive discussion in which twelfth-grade students answered questions to reinforce their understanding of the topics. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to encourage continued health awareness and academic success.
