Physiotherapy Department Students Conduct a Field Visit to Mihrabani Hospital
On Tuesday, 24 February 2026, second-year students from the Physiotherapy Department at Cihan University–Erbil participated in an academic field visit to Mihrabani Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Haval Sardar.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Dr. Tenya Tarq, the supervisor of the Histopathology Laboratory. She provided a comprehensive introduction to the laboratory’s functions, workflow, and essential procedures.
During the visit, students observed the processing of various tissue samples, including fixation, embedding, and tissue block formation. They were also introduced to the sectioning process, which is performed using a rotary microtome to obtain thin tissue slices suitable for microscopic examination. In addition, students learned about common staining techniques such as hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Dr. Tenya further explained how these prepared sections are carefully examined under the microscope for diagnostic purposes.
Moreover, she demonstrated how to differentiate between normal and cancerous cells by identifying key features such as variations in cell shape, nuclear size, cellular organization, and staining patterns. This practical explanation enabled students to better understand the pathological differences between healthy and diseased tissues.
Overall, the visit provided valuable clinical insight, allowing students to link histopathological findings with patient conditions and strengthening their ability to apply this knowledge in physiotherapy practice.
