President of Cihan University-Erbil Attends the Launch of “Erbil Street Market” Ramadan Festival
Under the auspices of the Governor of Erbil and in the presence of Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cihan Universities, and Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, the inaugural Ramadan festival titled “Erbil Street Market” officially opened on Monday evening, February 23, 2026.
The opening ceremony, attended by government officials, members of the Chamber of Commerce, and prominent businessmen, highlighted the significance of fostering job opportunities and creating a vibrant family atmosphere for the Holy Month of Ramadan. Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi accompanied the Governor and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees on a field tour of the festival’s various sections and stalls. During the tour, the University President engaged with small business owners, commending their craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit. He emphasized that Cihan University-Erbil consistently supports initiatives that contribute to the human and economic development of the Kurdistan Region.
The festival features over 50 kiosks and tents provided free of charge by the organizers to support small-scale entrepreneurs and local artisans. The displayed products primarily consist of traditional foods, handmade crafts, and Kurdish ethnic attire, representing a vital step toward revitalizing the local market and showcasing national heritage to visitors.
Furthermore, a group of students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil participated as volunteers in the festival. They provided free health screenings—including blood pressure and glucose monitoring—and conducted health awareness sessions for the public, reflecting the university’s commitment to community service and public health advocacy.
