President of Cihan University–Erbil Receives Delegation from Middle Euphrates Technical University to Strengthen Academic Collaboration
On Thursday, January 15, 2026, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University–Erbil, received a high-level delegation from Middle Euphrates Technical University (ATU), headed by Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Kazem Al-Zubaidi, President of ATU. The visit was conducted to foster scientific cooperation and establish a framework for academic collaboration between the two prestigious institutions.
Attended by the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayad Hazim Kakayi, and the Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Karim, the meeting focused on mechanisms for strengthening institutional ties. Prof. Dr. Amjad provided a comprehensive overview of Cihan University–Erbil’s development, highlighting its status as the leading private university in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He emphasized the university’s consistent qualitative and quantitative growth since its establishment in 2007.
Furthermore, Professor Dr. Amjad highlighted the university’s international and domestic academic networks. He underscored that Cihan
University–Erbil’s mission extends beyond traditional degree-granting to proactive community engagement through specialized scientific workshops. He specifically noted the university’s pioneering role in implementing the Bologna Process, as it was the first institution in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to adopt this system. Moreover, he outlined the university’s internationalization strategy, including the transition to English-medium instruction in most departments, the recruitment of international students, and the attainment of international program accreditations.
In response, Professor Dr. Hassan expressed his admiration for the academic standards achieved by Cihan University–Erbil. He provided a brief overview of Middle Euphrates Technical University, a leading public institution established in 2014 and headquartered in Najaf. He noted that ATU comprises numerous technical colleges and institutes offering a wide range of academic programs, including Technical Diplomas, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees.
Additionally, Professor Dr. Hassan stated that the primary objective of the visit was to develop academic cooperation in faculty capacity building, scientific research, and advanced pedagogy. He expressed his hope that the visit would serve as a cornerstone for a long-term strategic partnership. Professor Dr. Amjad affirmed the university’s full readiness to facilitate collaboration across academic departments, student exchange programs, and joint conferences and research initiatives.
The meeting concluded with the formal renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. This renewal builds upon the initial partnership established in 2022, which resulted in numerous successful joint activities. Today’s agreement marks a continued commitment to a shared roadmap for academic excellence across various scientific disciplines.
