Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi welcomes a delegation from JICA, Japan
A delegation of JICA, a Japanese International Cooperation Agency, visited Cihan University-Erbil and met with Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi. The meeting was arranged to take full advantage of the projects of the University students, particularly those in the field of engineering, and to use their skills for urban planning development.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi provided a concise overview of the university’s organizational structure, including its various academic departments, student enrollment figures, the extent of its international collaborations, and the remarkable abilities exhibited by its students. He said “We have four engineering departments at Cihan University-Erbil, where our students submit a plethora of projects each year. Consequently, their innovative ideas and projects hold immense potential for development across diverse fields”.
In response, Antoine Sura, the Director of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning, who headed the delegation, expressed “Considering the sustainable development plan, JICA endeavors to foster robust collaborations between governmental entities and the private sector, not only in Iraq as a whole but specifically within the Kurdistan Region. In pursuit of this objective, we aspire to take the ideas and projects proposed by the engineering students and actively engage in their refinement for the advancement of the cities.”
At the end of the meeting, an in-depth discussion took place on various facets of urban planning and sustainable development, particularly within the context of urban master plans. Of special focus was the pressing issue of population growth, which has witnessed a significant upsurge in recent times.
