Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, Outlines the Roadmap for the New Academic Year to the Academic Staff and Faculty Members
On the occasion of the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, in the presence of the university’s Vice Presidents, met with the University Council, faculty members, and administrative staff.
During the meeting, which was held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the VIP Hall of Cihan University-Erbil, the University President congratulated the faculty members, laboratory assistants, and administrative staff on the new academic year and welcomed the new faculty members who joined Cihan University-Erbil this year. At the same time, he praised the efforts and capabilities of the faculty members and department staff who successfully completed the previous academic year and achieved notable scientific accomplishments.
Throughout the meeting, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi emphasized the necessity of continuous growth and development for the university in the fields of research and technology, noting that the university must continue to progress. In line with this vision, the President of Cihan University-Erbil highlighted the importance of the quality of scientific research and the level of citations, explaining that the true scientific value of research is reflected in the number of times it is cited by other researchers, while research with no citations does not significantly contribute to the university’s scientific standing.
In this context, the President of Cihan University-Erbil announced a new system for the monthly evaluation of faculty members. According to this system, evaluations will no longer be conducted only annually but will also be carried out accurately on a monthly basis. In addition, it was decided to link rewards directly to productivity levels and the commitment of faculty members to conducting original and high-quality scientific research. This step was presented as a means of motivating academic staff to achieve higher positions in global rankings, such as the Times Higher Education and Shanghai rankings, which can be improved through publishing research in accredited international journals.
Another part of the meeting focused on adherence to laws and administrative contracts. In this regard, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi indicated that the rights and duties of faculty members are regulated according to the contracts signed with the university. He emphasized that, in return for providing faculty members with all their rights, the university expects a high level of academic performance and commitment to their work.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the message that everyone must work together to elevate the name of Cihan University-Erbil and advance scientific research to international levels. Additionally, emphasis was placed on a set of laws, regulations, and academic and scientific recommendations aimed at providing a suitable academic environment for university students and enabling faculty members to fulfill their duties in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
