Software Engineering and Informatics Students Explore Latest Technological Innovations
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the Department of Software Engineering and Informatics at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific field visit for second- and third-year students to Electro Mall. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Duaa Haider.
During the main session, the students met with technical expert Mr. Mohammed Kamran, who received them and delivered a presentation on major technological breakthroughs anticipated in 2026. He provided detailed scientific explanations of the differences between the latest generations of Central Processing Units (CPUs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), with a particular focus on devices optimized for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications.
In his address, Mr. Kamran emphasized that processor speed is no longer the sole indicator of performance. Instead, he highlighted hardware–software integration and the ability to process Big Data as critical factors that engineering students should consider when selecting computing devices. He also presented a comprehensive comparison of cooling systems and various types of Random Access Memory (RAM), explaining their direct impact on coding efficiency and the execution of complex engineering projects.
In another segment of the visit, students gained hands-on experience with the latest smart devices and their interconnected ecosystems. Mr. Kamran provided professional guidance on selecting high-quality, cost-effective hardware that meets students’ academic and future professional needs.
The visit concluded with an open discussion between the students and the center’s experts, offering a valuable opportunity to observe the practical application of academic knowledge and engage with the latest global technologies.
