Students from Department of English Language Lead an Interactive Flashcards Tense Challenge
On Thursday, 12 February 2026, third-stage students from the Department of English Language at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a ‘Flashcards Tense Challenge’ at Zanst International School for grades 10 and 11. The educational activity was designed to help young learners practice English tenses while promoting active participation and building learners’ confidence in using English tenses. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood Ameen. The school principal, Ms. Rezan Mohamad Rashid, along with staff member Mr. Aram Khalil Jabbar, warmly received the university students.
The session began with an interactive discussion in which the university students explained English tenses, including present, past, future, and participle forms. They provided practical tips to help learners understand the differences and proper usage of each tense. The facilitators also encouraged participants to share common challenges they face when using tenses. The flashcards offered a fun and effective way to reinforce understanding, as learners practiced speaking in different situations and decided when to use each tense.
Participants engaged in a variety of flashcard activities. In the Word Association activity, students said a word or phrase that came to mind when they saw each flashcard. During the Sentence Construction activity, they formed short sentences using the word or tense displayed on the cards. In the Motivational Flashcards activity, each learner received a card containing a motivational quote or tip to boost confidence. These activities aimed to strengthen language skills, introduce practical techniques for academic growth, and encourage positive thinking.
