Students from the Community Health Nursing Department Explore the Hospital Work Environment

Dr. Sarwan Wasman Hamad, Head of the Community Health Nursing Department at Cihan University–Erbil, organized a visit for second-year students to familiarize them with the professional work environment.

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the students embarked on an enlightening visit to Erbil West Emergency Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Firas Ismail Mustafa. They were warmly received by the hospital staff, after which the visit began with an informative presentation on nursing roles within the hospital. The students then had the opportunity to explore the hospital firsthand, touring key areas such as the Emergency Department, Radiology Unit, Laboratory, Burn Unit, and Inpatient Wards. Throughout the visit, department staff provided practical, on-site explanations of daily nursing activities.

Following the tour, Dr. Firas captivated the students with a discussion on the occupational hazards healthcare workers face every day. He shared strategic measures and protocols for preventing and controlling infectious diseases. The session included practical insights on the proper use of personal protective equipment and the efficient management of medical waste.

Finally, Dr. Firas conveyed the gratitude and appreciation of Dr. Sarwan to the hospital’s administration and staff for their support and for providing the students with this invaluable opportunity.
