Students from the Department of Media at Cihan University-Erbil Visited Khabat Newspaper and Mukriyani Media House
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, a group of students from the Department of Media at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific visit to the headquarters of Khabat Newspaper in Erbil and its affiliated publishing house, Mukriyani Media, under the supervision of Dr. Ali Munim Al-Qudah.
The delegation was received by Mr. Salam Abdullah, Editor-in-Chief of Khabat Newspaper, and Mr. Dilshad Wassani, the Managing Editor. During the meeting, Mr. Abdullah provided a detailed briefing on the history of the newspaper, highlighting its secret and public phases and emphasizing its significance and prominent standing among regional publications. He also discussed the release of the first issue, the newspaper’s editorial practices, and the types of articles and content it features. A productive and insightful discussion followed between the students and the editor-in-chief.
Afterward, Mr. Dilshad guided the students on a tour of the newspaper’s various departments. The students engaged with department heads who explained their respective workflows, including news writing, report preparation, and other journalistic editing techniques. The tour began with a visit to the archive department, where students viewed early editions of the newspaper from its Baghdad and Kurdistan phases. Mr. Dilshad also outlined the entire newspaper production process from design and layout to printing and publication.
In the layout and design department, the students learned about the stages of page design and observed the production process in real time. They then visited the investigative journalism department, where the head of the section shared valuable insights into the department’s work.
The visit concluded at Mukriyani Media House, where Khabat Newspaper and a variety of scientific and professional books are printed. There, the students were received by Mr. Karwan Abdullah, Director of the Institute, who provided a comprehensive explanation of the printing process and the publications produced by the Mukriyani Media Foundation.
