Students from the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies Conduct a Scientific Visit to Al-Suwaidi Hospital
The Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific visit for its first-year students to Al-Suwaidi Hospital in Erbil on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The visit was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Safa.
The students were received by Dr. Ahmed Diyaa, Head of the Radiology and Ultrasound Department at the hospital, who provided a detailed scientific and practical explanation of the main radiological technologies and the modern equipment used. He introduced X-ray devices and explained their fundamental role in diagnosing fractures, chest conditions, and skeletal disorders, while emphasizing radiation safety principles and the protection of both patients and medical staff. He also discussed the CT scan device, highlighting its importance in diagnosing emergency cases and internal injuries, as well as the accuracy of its diagnostic results.
Additionally, he explained the uses of MRI machines for imaging soft tissues and the nervous system, highlighting the importance of adhering to safety procedures and properly preparing patients. The students were also introduced to dental X-ray devices and their role in diagnosing oral and jaw diseases, with an emphasis on minimizing radiation exposure. Dr. Diyaa further demonstrated the daily workflows of the Radiology Department, patient management procedures, and the principles of professional and compassionate interaction with patients, ensuring their safety, comfort, and the quality of medical services, particularly in a clinical work environment.
Commenting on the visit, Dr. Ahmed Diyaa emphasized the importance of such scientific activities, noting that exposing first-year students to the real working environment and advanced medical equipment helps reinforce fundamental radiological concepts and motivates them to learn. He added that these activities assist students in understanding their future role within the medical team and the proper methods of interacting with patients.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the management and medical staff of Al-Suwaidi Hospital for their warm reception and cooperation. They also praised the role of Cihan University–Erbil in organizing such scientific visits that help prepare qualified specialized personnel.
