STUDENTS FROM THE MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES DEPARTMENT PREPARED ASPIRIN

For the first time at Cihan University – Erbil, on 13 April 2022 first-year students from the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department prepared a medicinal substance under the supervision of Dr. Aras Najm Al-Din Hamad.

This involved aspirin was prepared starting from the chemical reaction of salicylic acid with acetic anhydride and with the presence of sulfuric acid as a catalyst. In the end, students learned how to obtain aspirin and its benefits which is used by a large group of patients because of its role in reducing inflammation, fever, relieving mild to moderate pain such as muscle pain, toothache, and colds, and is also used as an anticoagulant agent.
