Students of Biomedical Sciences Contributed as Volunteers at World Cancer Awareness Conference
Fourth-stage students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences attended the World Cancer Awareness Day conference as volunteers On Tuesday, 3rd February 2026. The event was organized by Ashti Health Organization in collaboration with the Erbil Health Directorate at Erbil International Hotel.
The conference began with an opening speech by Dr. Dlovan Mohammed, Director of the Erbil Health Directorate, who emphasized the importance of cancer awareness and the impact of regular examinations for early detection. Expert speakers, including Dr. Ahmad Sami, Dr. Jangi Shawkat, Dr. Hardi Jawad, and Dr. Payman Ali, presented on various aspects of cancer. Dr. Ahmad Sami also delivered a seminar on the types, symptoms, prevention, and early detection of cancer.
The Biomedical Sciences students played an active role as volunteers, assisting with the organization of the conference and welcoming participants. In addition, they contributed to discussion sessions on cancer awareness, pathogenicity, and diagnostic approaches, demonstrating their growing engagement in public health initiatives and scientific discourse.
Their participation reflects the department’s commitment to fostering practical experience and active involvement in health promotion activities, preparing students to be future contributors to healthcare and research.
