The Biomedical Sciences Department Organized a Cancer Awareness Workshop
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil organized a Cancer Awareness Workshop on Thursday, February 6, 2025, as part of Cancer Awareness Month. The event, held in the university’s VIP Hall, was attended by department heads, faculty members, and students from various academic disciplines.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Naser Gailani, a genetic counselor and supervisor at Farabi Laboratory. In his presentation, Dr. Gailani highlighted the alarming global impact of cancer, noting that one in five individuals is at risk of succumbing to the disease. He provided an in-depth discussion on the mechanisms of cancer progression, emphasizing the genetic factors that contribute to its inheritance and how cancer affects individuals at a molecular level.
Dr. Gailani later shared promising advancements in cancer prevention and treatment, discussing the latest scientific breakthroughs that have significantly reduced mortality rates and offered renewed hope to patients. He underscored the importance of early detection, lifestyle modifications, and medical interventions in fighting against it.
After the workshop, Dr. Merza Hamza Homady, a professor in the Biomedical Sciences Department, presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Gailani in recognition of his valuable contributions. In response, Dr. Gailani expressed his gratitude to the department head and academic staff for their hospitality and support in raising awareness about this critical health issue.
