The Department of Media Organized a Workshop about the Impact of Social Networking Sites on the Values and Customs of Society
The Department of Media organized a workshop entitled The Impact of Social Media on the Values and Customs of Society on Sunday and Monday 27-28 of February 2022 at Cihan Academy Hall.
The first day included two axes. The first was presented by the Assistant Lecturer Hemin Amin Shwani, entitled (The risk of new media on Social Values), where he referred to the concept of new media and social values and the relationship of new media to social values, clarifying the characteristics of modern society in the real world and the virtual world, and pointed out a number of risks caused by the virtual world. Such as:
- The disintegration of society and the high divorce rate in 2021 due to social networking sites
- Deviation and focus on electronic games that include violence and crime, and statistics on the high rate of crimes.
- Social isolation due to the virtual world in which the individual lives.
- Lack of trust among members of society.
- Intellectual and terrorist extremism.
- Staying away from social cohesion between groups of society.
- Intolerance and lack of mutual respect.
- Creating a non-productive consumer.
- Reinforcement of unhealthy morals and pornography
The second axis included (the impact of social networking sites on society) presented by the assistant Lecturer Dana Othman Hussein, where he reviewed the emergence of new media and how media has developed to reach the global level in development and spread, and pointed to the danger of Facebook through the high toll of violence and crime
At the end of the first topic, the audience asked many questions and interventions that served the topic
The second day included two axes. The first was presented by Dr. Haugen Omar Muhammad on (the impact of social networking sites on the life style of individuals) and he addressed the impact of Facebook on food, clothing and the lifestyle.
As for the second axis, it was presented by Mrs. Sherine Saleh Ahmed, the official of the AFA organization and a member of the Oversight and Audit Board of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, where she spoke about the effects of social networking sites from the technical side to the scourge of the components of society, spreading rumors and shady news, dismantling society and spreading wrong behaviors and habits, especially among members of society.
