The Department of Media with the Department of International and Diplomatic Relations hold a Joint Workshop
The Department of Media and the Department of International and Diplomatic Relations organized a joint workshop entitled “The Impact of Political Systems on Investigative Journalism Work in the Middle East” on Wednesday and Thursday, 8-9/12/2021
The first day of the workshop was held in the VIP hall and included two pivots. The first was presented by the Assistant Lecturer Abeer Mahmoud Jabbar, entitled “Investigative Journalism and its Concept”, where it addressed the most important concepts related to investigative journalism, its characteristics, the emergence of the modern media art, and the most important principles that the journalist should have in the field of investigative journalism.
Subsequently for the second pivot, the lecturer Dr. Hawzheeen Omar, presented a lecture entitled “The Effectiveness of Investigative Journalism in Monitoring Political Power,” in which he reviewed the importance of investigative journalism and its impact on political systems.
The second day of the workshop was held in Cihan Academy Hall, on which Assistant Lecturer Ashna Baban participated by presenting a lecture entitled “The Role of the Political System on Media Freedom,” where she pointed out the importance of political systems and laws in media work in general and investigative journalism in particular, and how to provide sufficient freedom in accordance with political systems for work the media.
Then the Lecturer, Laila Issa Abu Al-Qasim, gave a lecture entitled “The Legal Organization of Investigative Journalism Work in Iraq”, in which she reviewed the legal aspect regulating investigative journalism in Iraq and what are the legal guarantees of journalist’s rights and protection in accordance with the Iraqi constitution.
At the end of the workshop, the attendees presented their scientific interventions that affected the topic of the workshop, as well as their questions and inquiries, which were answered by the lecturers according to each of the workshop’s pivots.
