The Departments of Law and International Relations Organized a Visit to the Directorate of Combating Violence against Women and Families

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, Cihan University–Erbil’s Departments of Law and International Relations and Diplomacy organized a scientific field visit for students to the Directorate of Combating Violence against Women and Families in Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali.

The students were received by Brigadier General Safeen Tahir Muhammad Amin, who warmly welcomed the delegation. Mr. Pero Anwar Saeed, Head of the Awareness, Training, and Research Department, delivered a detailed lecture on the nature of the Directorate’s work, its organizational structure, and the mechanisms for submitting complaints.

He also discussed the legal framework, including the Domestic Violence Law in the Kurdistan Region and related legislation, as well as international conventions such as CEDAW and international human rights obligations.

 In addition, he reviewed the main challenges and the latest developments concerning the draft law amendment. The lecture was followed by a dialogue session during which the students’ raised questions and shared their remarks.

The visit also included a tour of the operations room designated for receiving complaints and the Directorate’s awareness radio station. At the end of the visit, Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali expressed his gratitude and appreciation, on behalf of the university, to the Brigadier General and the Directorate’s staff for their warm reception and hospitality.
